Portrait Sessions with Arvin
3 October 2026
11:00am - 5:00pm at The Substation
Join Sydney photographer Arvin Prem Kumar at The Substation for an intimate 15-minute black-and-white portrait session—and refresh your profile picture while directly supporting Qtopia Sydney. Part of the proceeds from every session helps fund our ongoing exhibitions and community programs.

These sessions draw inspiration from legendary American photographer Peter Hujar (1934–1987), a vital chronicler of New York’s post-Stonewall queer underground. Hujar spent decades photographing drag icons, artists, and LGBTQIA+ community members like Candy Darling, Divine, and David Wojnarowicz. His signature stark, empathetic black-and-white style celebrated vulnerability and unvarnished truth without pretense. Channeling that classic aesthetic, Arvin uses minimalist lighting and focus on genuine character to capture your truest self.
No bookings are required; sessions run strictly on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the day and with each session costing $50.
